OUR PROJECTS

Our Conversations continue to strengthen collaboraiton across Knaresborough, creating a foundation for new partnerships that support our shared vision for the future. These connections often result in tangible initiatives such as 'Ageing Well' sessions, which provide crucial discussions around our older residents, or the 'Green Connectors' project, a grassroots effort linking individuals and resources to promote sustainability and gardening.

While these projects may begin smallm community-driven initiatives, their impact is significant. Over time, many of these efforts blossom into formal partnerships or secure funding to scale their delivery. This evolution enables us to take larger, more impactful steps towards our collective goals, demonstrating the power of local relationships forged through the Voice sessions.

Knaresborough is a town so rich with heritage that there’s no end to the opportunities to tell new stories about our past.  Whilst our Courthouse museum tells part of this story the Knaresborough Museum Association (KMA), a project that has emerged relatively recently from the work of Knaresborough Renaissance, has grown rapidly and now has an established base on the High Street.  During 2024 the Voice conversations led to support for an option appraisal to be conducted for the future of Knaresborough Museum offering.  You can find out more from kathymallday@gmail.com or pop in to the Heritage Centre at 12 High Street where they have museum gallery and heritage information desk.

It has long been recognised that navigating around the town for residents and visitors alike can be a challenge.  Voice conversations led to the formation of a collaboration between Knaresborough & District Chamber, Renaissance Knaresborough and Knaresborough Connectors to conduct a major survey to find out what people thought.  We had 799 responses and received a comprehensive report of the results that can be accessed here

The data in this report should provide a valuable asset for all who are interested in building for the future – take a look and find out what people thought about Knaresborough as a place to live and visit and what ideas for the future were met with enthusiasm.

The amount of data available about Knaresborough is mind-boggling.  However, bringing it together and using it to inform how to make our great town even better is a real challenge.  Partners in the Voice network, particularly the Chamber of Trade and Connectors, have a keen interest in accessing and interpreting that data.  They worked together to create a prototype dashboard in 2022 but have since built on that to create a new mapping platform that can be used to support local projects. This link provides access to a prototype platform which demonstrates our work in progress.  An example of how we plan to use this is to identify and develop green spaces for urban gardens or other greening projects.  We’re aligning the approach with work at North Yorkshire Council but are building from the grass roots with Green Connectors, (others) and local Councillors to make a real difference to people’s lives.
